It's always nice to see people who absolutely trash talk their team when they're down and out. You are not ALWAYS going to be on top. There are times when your team is going to perform sluggishly, not have the right people, or something along those lines. And most of the radically fanatical fans can't handle this. In case you couldn't tell, not a fan of those types of fans! :D

Berating and criticizing the team when they are constantly losing?

Yep...that's support.

I guess in Britain, support means insulting you favorite player.

Personally, I'm not a fan of sports. People get WAY too obsessive over sports. Not to mention nationalistic. Plus, they're just boring.

I like some sports. I personally enjoyed seeing Leicester City unexpectedly win the Premier League last season. I also enjoy ice hockey matches, but the coverage we get of it in the UK is poor.

Next comes the riot where they trash the town over their team losing (Or if they win trashing the town in celebration)

In Italy, if an opera singer gets a note wrong, the audience will jeer that person.

Wait, what?

Potters have been mid-table just about every year since they joined the Premiership, and that's been nearly a decade!

Though admittedly, maybe I'm just looking at this through Yank eyes…after all, I'm spoiled for gridiron teams and nothing else can even get into the playoffs most years (though it's nice to see the Rapids do what they did most of the year–and *damn* annoying to see their manager bench most of his starters in the final two games because a high playoff seed was locked up. If we want *that* variety of football to really take root here, we need the Shield to be the more-valued honour, not MLS Cup).

Stoke didn't start this season very well but they're starting to pick up. Hopefully the good form will continue.

Yep that's typical football support right there.

I thought it was all loud drunk people singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" or something...
FreyFox 26th Oct 2016, 12:56 AM edit delete reply
I know "You'll Never Walk Alone" is associated with Liverpool FC. Stoke City fans' preferred song is "Delilah" ^^. I'm not sure how it came to be.

I think that kind of support is called "Tough Love", or maybe "tough, love."

Even though I'm not a sports fan, I do support my hometown's many teams from various sports to show my loyalty to my hometown. :)
